18 October 2002 ... Work Stories

There is another person at my work with my name. I've never met another "Cheri" before (tho she spells her name differently).

In the time I've worked at that company, there have been two Billy's, two Steve's, and now, two Rob's and two Jeff's. And of course, the two Cheri's.

The company only has about 25 employees, and I find the name coincidences rather odd... I wonder if they hire on name, alone. heh.

Talking with a couple ladies at work the other day. One lady asks me if I watch Animal Precinct on the animal channel. I say I've seen it a few times, "but it's a little bit hard to watch sometimes." Yes, she says, Those people just starve their dogs, nothing but skin and bones and ticks...

Another lady jumps in and says, "Yes, but sometimes things happen, you lose your job, and you have to feed your kids first, right?"

Oh boy. I'm all over that one. "NO! When you get an animal, you take on the responsibility." She starts again with the "things happen" argument. "No. If you can't take care of your animal, you take it to the Humane Society. That's what they are there for."

She shuts up after that. But I can't believe that there are people in the world, people that I work with, who think that starving an animal is okay. gods.

So, we've got this new sign-making machine in our little room. The thing is new and improved and got cool buttons to push and is all shiny and pretty.

We've had it for a week, and I've made exactly one sign in it. "Does it work?" everybody asks. "Yes," I say, "it works... But it's too big to use for every day stuff." Cleaning this monster of a machine is a two person job, just not worth the trouble of using it at all. "Bigger isn't better, huh?" they say. Exactly.
