Yay! A drawing day is just what I need after the crazy week I've had. A little bit of creativity to wash the tediousness away. :)

I was just looking at the Drawing Day that I did last year. ha: I drew one of my stuffies, Verdella the Vegan Dragon... and later, after a bit more work, that drawing was one of my first postcards that I sent out to my exchange group...

I'll update this blog post as I draw...

5pm-ish...

Okay. So I may have gotten distracted by my crocheting project. And then we had to go to Saturday Market to get tomato plants and flowers. And then we had to plant the tomato plants and flowers and strawberries and butternut squash and more flowers.

Eventually I did do a couple of drawings... :)

It's the green tomatoes on one of the plants we bought! I'm pretty excited about having real, really alive plants in our garden. I didn't draw this on site tho... I took some photos, printed one and drew from that.

well. started drawing. Then I remembered that drawing leaves is boring. so I quit and went on to my next drawing...

Then I decided I didn't really like drawing flowers either. ha. Those are the verbena flowers, which probably won't last very long in the garden, but they're pretty now. (these are the peach coloured flowers. we also got purple ones. I'll post about our garden forays tomorrow, perhaps.)

The thing about drawing plants, is that it doesn't have to be perfect and it will still look decent. When you're drawing faces and people (non-human people, too) if you get one little line wrong, the whole picture looks off. But that doesn't happen with plants. So plants are much nicer to draw.

Tiger Eye. Purple verbena in the back, and peach verbena just barely visible in top left corner.

We also got two tomato plants: an Oregon Spring tomato and a Brandywine tomato. Two butternut squash starts. and two strawberry plants.

Hopefully the big wildflower patch in the front of the garden will grow into something beautiful.

Heya Wonderful Web Surfers: I'll be off line for the next week. not that it will make much of a difference around here ;], since I haven't been updating (sorry).

No postcards going out either (sorry some more!).

My mom is visiting. Hopefully when I get back I'll have some new photos to show you, and hopefully some new postcards to make. and some blogging to do!

Yay! I had a good time with my Mom. We mostly just hung out together. We went to Saturday Market. Watched a bunch of movies. Went walking through some forests. Did a few other random things.

(And now I'm glad to have my Internet back. :) )

The trip to Saturday Market was awesome. We got some food... cucumbers and strawberries and a pack of mushrooms. Some plants for our community garden... a cherry tomato plant for SO and a beautiful flower for me.

And a new lap desk for me as a belated birthday present. It's going to be great; I've not used it yet, but it seems pretty comfortable. And it has a wonderfully colourful fabric, from the Caribbean!

Besides the plants we got at Saturday Market, we got a few more freebie plants from a nursery. Some different kinds of tomatoes, a cilantro plant and a cucumber plant. So the garden has some more useful type plants growing in it, besides all the weeds. ;) Some if the seeds we planted are coming up as well... The peas are doing well, also have several cucumber babies peeking up. Not sure about the broccoli, tho, and the garlic starts were looking kind of pathetic as well.

Anyway. a bit of walking occured in the last week as well. I've not had the chance to get my photos onto the computer yet, but I'm sure there's at least one new postcard there! :)

... and, speaking of postcards, I think that will be my first major project of the weekend...

Yesterday, in my postcard excitement, I thought I would start with a list of all the postcards I needed to make and send out. And the list grew to 26. And all of a sudden, I was not excited about making postcards: now it seems more like work!

ha. Instead, I relaxed most of the saturday... reading magazines, doing backend web site stuff, and napping. And today has gone about the same!

This is the tiger eye flower that we got at Saturday Market on 6 june... I just love how happy it is!

My mom bought this flower for me at Saturday Market. It's a Chinese Balsam with camelia flowers. (There was a Chinese Balsam with snap dragon type flowers, too.) I hope it lives!

We are now up to six different kinds of tomato plants in the garden. *rolls eyes* I don't even like tomatoes that much, but Significant Other just wanted to plant them! ;)

Some of our new plants were donated to our community garden by a local wholesale nursery, Log House Plants. Yay: thank you for the free tomato plants! Also got a cucumber and a cilantro. :) Check out their newsletter... colourful and informative, I've already learned things. Like you can eat kale flower buds like broccoli!
