I have this thing that I've been obsessing about, so I figured I'd go
ahead and get it out of my system. :) I've been thinking about it,
rolling it around, chewing on it, trying to get the taste of it.
Yahoo! is... what's the word? Merging? Taking over? Whatever.
Yahoo! is taking over eGroups and WebRing.
Big business getting ever bigger. Yahoo! already has a nice big kingdom
over there. And both eGroups and WebRing are colossal in and of themselves.
WebRing has the monopoly on site grouping. eGroups, while not a monopoly
(Tropica comes to mind, I'm sure there are others), is probably the biggest
email list site, especially after eGroups took over OneList not so long ago.
I guess I feel alarmed. All this consolidating.
I should be thrilled... recently Yahoo! took over Google, and subsequently
this website is now listed in the most popular search engine in the world.
But, nope, I am definately alarmed. I see big business as being bogged
down in their own red tape. I see change becoming ever more difficult
when big business is controling all the eye can see. And change is good.
