I guess because I've been reading non-fiction for the past couple of weeks, I'm wanting some fiction to read.

There are a couple sites I turn to when I need some science fiction recommendations...

∞  Tiptree Awards James Tiptree, Jr. is one of my favorite authors, altho she mostly wrote short stories. The award is "an annual literary prize for science fiction or fantasy that expands or explores our understanding of gender". I discovered The Orphan's Tales here: two books I love ( cowinner in 2006)

∞  Tor.com has an active blog with some really interesting articles every now and then. Here's a good one about The Wonderful Wizard of Oz (but don't bother to buy a copy from them! The series is free on Project Gutenberg: Frank Baum)

∞  SF Signal.com There is always something fascinating on this site, it's great...

• Speculative Fiction Books that should be assigned in school Very interesting lists here. Uglies was on two lists, so I decided to get that one (especially since the last list it was on also included Orphan's Tales. :). The James Bloomer list interests me: Air won the Tiptree Award in 2005, and I'm interested in the othe books as well.
• Interview with M Rickert So happy to find this author has a book of short stories out! I love all her stories in the Magazine of Fantasy & Science Fiction. Too bad there's not a digital copy or I'd be buying it as well.
• Winners of the World Fantasy Award oh yeah: new fav author, Kij Johnson is on the list with her "26 monkeys, also the abyss" short story. Check out this and her other short stories at her website: Kij Johnson.com

And yes, when buying science fiction I do give more consideration to female authors. And because of that I do "accidently" buy some fantasy novels as well. That's okay.
